Singapore’s rail and bus network makes most tourist routes straightforward. Allow extra time on your first journey: the challenge is usually finding the right station exit, not understanding the city’s shape.

From Changi Airport

Follow signs for the MRT, licensed taxis or airport ride-hailing pick-up points rather than accepting unsolicited offers. Airport information counters can clarify terminals, transfer times and accessible routes.

The MRT is often economical for light luggage and daytime arrivals. A taxi or booked car may be worthwhile for a family, multiple bags, a late arrival or a hotel far from a station. Check the current airport fare and surcharge information before choosing.

Use the MRT and buses well

Plan with the official network information and allow time for interchange walks. Tap in and out with an accepted contactless bank card or an approved transit payment method, using the same card or device throughout a journey; payment options and fare rules can change.

  • Stand to one side on escalators and let alighting passengers leave first
  • Give priority seats to people who need them
  • Check the last train and bus before an evening show
  • Keep a screenshot of your destination and station exit

Buses are excellent for short cross-town journeys and scenic neighbourhood routes, but they can take longer in rain or traffic. Stop names and directions deserve a final check before boarding.

Taxis and ride-hailing

Use the official taxi queue, a licensed booking channel or the designated ride-hailing pick-up point. Confirm the vehicle and destination in the app, and keep the receipt. Metered fares, booking fees and surcharges depend on the service and time.

Accessibility and luggage

MRT stations increasingly provide lifts and step-free routes, but the most convenient exit may not be the nearest one. Check LTA station information and ask staff for an accessible route. A small suitcase is much easier on crowded platforms than a large one.

Avoid blocking doors, eating or drinking on public transport. Build a ten-minute buffer for navigation and a larger one when travelling to the airport.

Routes, fares and payment products are updated periodically. Verify them with LTA, SimplyGo and Changi Airport on the day you travel.
