Planning a holiday to Singapore from India?
Singapore is one of the most popular destinations for Indian travellers, whether you are visiting for a family holiday, a short getaway, shopping, sightseeing or simply to experience the city.
But before booking your flights and hotel, there is one important thing to understand: Indian passport holders need a valid Singapore entry visa to travel to Singapore for a short-term visit. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
The good news is that the process is relatively straightforward if your documents are complete and your application accurately reflects your travel plans.
Here is a practical guide covering when to apply, what documents you need, how much it costs, how long it takes and what happens after your visa is approved.
Do Indian citizens need a visa for Singapore?
Yes.
Indian citizens travelling on an Indian passport require a Singapore entry visa before travelling to Singapore for a short-term visit.
The visa is a pre-entry permission. It allows you to travel to Singapore and seek entry, but it does not automatically guarantee that you will be admitted into the country.
The final decision to allow entry is made by Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the point of arrival. (ICA)
This is an important distinction:
Visa ≠ guaranteed entry ≠ guaranteed number of days of stay.
The length of your stay is determined when you enter Singapore through the Visit Pass issued by ICA. It is not automatically linked to the validity period of your visa. (ICA)
When should Indians apply for a Singapore tourist visa?
This is one of the most common questions travellers have.
ICA advises applicants to apply for a Singapore entry visa within 30 days before their intended arrival. (AskGov)
For example, if you plan to arrive in Singapore on 20 December, you should generally plan your visa application around the period beginning approximately 20 November.
Singapore's High Commission in India says visa applications generally take 3–5 working days, excluding the date of submission, weekends and public holidays. Some applications can take longer. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
A practical approach
Do not leave your application until the last few days before your flight.
At the same time, applying too far in advance may not be appropriate because ICA advises applicants to apply around 30 days before arrival.
A sensible approach is to prepare your documents well in advance and submit the application within the recommended 30-day window.
And importantly, don't assume that paying for a flight guarantees that your visa will be approved.
The Singapore High Commission specifically states that applicants are not required to purchase a flight ticket before applying and that those who purchase tickets do so at their own risk if the application is unsuccessful or the approved visa duration does not match their intended travel dates. You need to complete the Singapore Form 14A – Application for Entry Visa and sign it.
The information provided in the form should be accurate and consistent with your supporting documents. (ICA)
-

The Singapore High Commission requires two recent passport-sized color photographs, taken within the last three months.
The photograph should meet Singapore's specified requirements, including a plain white background and a clear, front-facing image. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
-
Supporting documents
Depending on your circumstances, additional documents may be requested.
These could include documents supporting your: Travel plans, Employment, Financial position, Accommodation, Relationship with a Singapore-based contact, Purpose of visit
A Letter of Introduction for Visa Application (Form V39A) may also be required on a case-by-case basis. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
If documents are in Hindi or another language, the Singapore High Commission says they should be translated into English. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
What is the Letter of Introduction (LOI)?
An LOI is also known as Form V39A.
It may be requested as part of a Singapore visa application.
For a social visit, the local contact generally needs to be a Singapore citizen or Singapore permanent resident who is at least 21 years old.
However, an LOI is not automatically required for every tourist application. Singapore authorities can request additional supporting documents depending on the individual application. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
So don't assume that every Indian tourist needs to find someone in Singapore to sponsor their trip.
Where can Indians apply for a Singapore tourist visa?
Indian applicants generally apply through authorized visa agents appointed by the Singapore High Commission.
The Singapore High Commission in New Delhi publishes the list of authorized visa agents and states that visa applications are accepted through these agents. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
This is important because you should be careful about websites or individuals claiming to have a special relationship with Singapore immigration or promising guaranteed visa approval.
There is no legitimate way to guarantee that a visa will be approved.
Every application is assessed on its own merits. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
Applications generally take 3–5 working days, although some cases can take longer. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
How much does a Singapore tourist visa cost for Indians?
The Singapore High Commission currently lists:
Visa processing fee: INR 2,100/~30 SGD
This fee is non-refundable, including if the visa application is rejected or withdrawn.
Authorized visa agents may additionally charge a service fee of INR 1,300. (Singapore High Commission Delhi)
Therefore, applicants should check the total amount payable with the authorized agent before submitting the application.
Does getting the Singapore visa guarantee entry?
No.
This is perhaps the most important thing for first-time visitors to understand.
A Singapore visa is permission to travel to Singapore and seek entry. It is not itself an immigration pass.
At the airport, ICA officers assess whether the traveler meets Singapore's entry requirements. (ICA)
You may be asked about: Your purpose of travel, Where you are staying, Your return or onward travel, Your travel plans and Your ability to support yourself during the visit
Singapore's entry requirements include having a valid passport, where applicable a valid visa, sufficient funds and confirmed onward/return travel where applicable. (ICA)
How many days can an Indian tourist stay in Singapore?
Do not confuse visa validity with duration of stay.
The visa's validity tells you the period during which you can use the visa to travel to Singapore and seek entry.
The actual period you are allowed to remain in Singapore is determined by the Visit Pass issued when you enter Singapore. (ICA)
Your e-Pass is issued digitally and indicates the period of stay granted and the last day you are allowed to remain in Singapore.
What is the SG Arrival Card?
The SG Arrival Card (SGAC) is separate from your visa.
It is not a visa.
Foreign visitors who are entering Singapore must submit the SG Arrival Card with the electronic health declaration within three days before arrival, including the day of arrival. (ICA)
For example, if you arrive on 20 December, you can submit the SG Arrival Card from 18 December onwards.
Is the SG Arrival Card free?
Yes.
ICA states that SGAC submission is free of charge through the official ICA e-Service or the MyICA mobile application. (ICA)
Be careful with websites offering to submit the SG Arrival Card for a fee. ICA specifically states that it does not endorse commercial entities charging for this service. (ICA)
What should you carry when travelling to Singapore?
Even after your visa has been approved, keep your travel documents organized.
It is sensible to carry: Passport, Copy of your Singapore e-Visa, Return or onward flight details, Hotel/accommodation confirmation, Travel itinerary, Relevant supporting documents, Travel insurance details, Evidence of sufficient funds, where appropriate, SG Arrival Card acknowledgement
You may not be asked for every document, but having them available can make the immigration process easier if questions arise.
What if my Singapore visa is rejected?
A visa application is assessed individually and approval is not guaranteed.
If your application is unsuccessful, you should review the circumstances and requirements before making another application.
Avoid submitting false information or documents in an attempt to improve your chances. Accurate and complete information is essential.
